A multidisciplinary panel from leading institutions across the country discusses the expanding role of tumor genotyping in thyroid nodule patient management. This discussion features several real-world case studies from the perspectives of an endocrinologist, surgeon, and pathologist. Paul W. Ladenson, MD, Professor of Medicine, Pathology, Oncology, and Radiology, Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine

Paul W. Ladenson, M.D., is the John Eager Howard Professor of Endocrinology and Metabolism, and Professor of Medicine, Pathology, Oncology, Radiology and Radiological Sciences at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, where he is a University Distinguished Professor.  

Dr. Ladenson was educated at Dartmouth College, Oxford University, and Harvard Medical School before training in Internal Medicine, and Endocrinology and Metabolism at Massachusetts General Hospital.

Dr. Ladenson was the founding director of the Johns Hopkins Thyroid Tumor Center in 1988. He has served as President of the American on Thyroid Association; Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism, and chair of the American Board of Internal Medicine examination committee in Endocrinology, Diabetes, and Metabolism.

Dr. Ladenson’s principal research interests have been innovations in thyroid cancer care and health-economic analyses in thyroidology. 

Nishant Agarwal, MD, Director, Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery and Professor of Surgery, University of Chicago

Dr. Agrawal is Professor of Surgery, Chief of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery, and co-Director of Head and Neck Surgical Oncology at the University of Chicago.  Dr. Agrawal completed medical school and residency training at Johns Hopkins University.  He completed a head and neck surgical oncology fellowship at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center and a molecular genetics research fellowship at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine.  He has made meritorious contributions to research, education, and clinical care in thyroid cancer.  His work has achieved international recognition in the field of head and neck surgical oncology and head and neck cancer genetics.
