Franklin Neil Tessler, MD
Franklin Neil Tessler, MD is Professor Emeritus of Radiology and Senior Medical Officer for Health System Information Services at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, USA. He has 40 years of experience in ultrasound with a special interest in thyroid sonography. Dr. Tessler is a Fellow of the Society of Radiologists in Ultrasound (SRU) and the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine, and was a member of the panel that developed the SRU consensus guidelines for thyroid nodule management in 2004. He leads the committee that published the American College of Radiology TI-RADS in 2017 and heads the steering committee for the International Thyroid Nodule Ultrasound Working Group, which seeks to produce a unified system for thyroid nodule risk stratification and management with participants from multiple professional organizations around the globe. Dr. Tessler resides in Birmingham, Alabama with his wife, Debbie.
